Adding a Little more water capacity
I am heading up to the boat, and while there will be looking at adding a Little more water capacity. We have the 5 gallon camper bag that came with the boat. I was thinking of adding another bag in parralell. A clear hose from each bag to a Tee and the Tee up to a new 12V. Pump/Faucet.
Any reason why this wouldn't work well? Should I just be looking for a long narrow flexible tank instead? I for now keep the bag in the cubby storage under the sliding galley. If for a longer trip, should I look for a tank that will fit under the rear berth? My concern with a larger tank is,
it will be seldom used and might I need to "bleach it" when not in use ?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Sounds like I have the same setup as you and I just orient the water bag so that the outlet is off to the side or down a little so the pump can prime easier. Eventually the air gets sucked out and there's not problem. Often I carry 2 of those bags and just switch over when the first is empty but maybe I'll consider your idea.

Water bag
Richard:
Don't you have a significant other that insists on presurized water?
The Admiral of my ship had me deep six that goofy camper bag you speak of after couple summers. It was not so bad with just day sailing, but once the extended trips started, she started in about the tap pump and camper bag. As per orders from the top I now have an electric pump and dual electric/pump tap and the smaller 50 liter plastimo water bag. It fits quite nicely under the aft berth just behind the companionway ladder. I find the square 50 liter is just enough, but in hindsight perhaps I should have got the longer rectangular bag (130 liter) and only fill it half. During off season you can put Arm & Hammer Baking Soda in it to keep it fresh. During sailing season you need to make more use of it to keep a fresh supply of water circulating through. It is surprising how much more use it gets when you have electric pressurized water system.
Yet another project to embark on, as if you didn't have enough with all the extra wiring you are going to do, oh well there is wiring with the water too.

I went with two hard coleman 5 gallon tanks. We find we get 2 - 3 days from one tank with my family of 5 on board. They fit easily up front in an X, an M might be more of a challenge to find a place. I fitted a dip tube to one of their caps and it is simple to switch tanks. I still like being able to remove the tanks for easy filling and cleaning. Even out at anchor we can dinghy in and fill the water at a park.

The plumbing feeds a 'on demand' pump (I've disconnected my head faucet as we never used that sink). I like these a lot better than the true marine pressure pumps. There is no pressure left in the lines to cause leaks over time. The galley sink faucet has a switch in it so when you turn the water on the pump turns on. Clean simple, leak free, no accumulator tanks. The pump and faucet were around $60 (looks like more now).

i have two of these in my X (galley and head).
Jabsco Pump & Faucet

i remember paying about $50 on-line for the package (pump & faucet).
i use the OEM flexible Mac tanks that can be purchased at WalMart.
since they're only $5 each, i usually keep a couple of extra on board.
i think that your T concept will work fine.

I just added a 50 gallon flexible tank under the rear berth of our 04M.The bladder fit nice. Takes a while to add 50 gallons of water! But should be good. We have a 12v pressure water..and the 16 gallon seemed to run out too fast
I would suggest losing the 5 gallon and getting a larger one and putting it under the rear berth..as the space is not useful for a lot of stuff

Bag
Divecoz;
Just for the record, my Wal Mart sells the EXACT same 5 gallon bag that came with my
for $4.99, which I thought was pretty cheap for an extra water supply.
I see no reason why it wouldn't work in parallel - - - and it's a simple, cheap fix. (That's me - - - simple, cheap)

Re: Bag
Rick I am really leaning towards the twin bags as I can fill-em in the boat or even carry them on-board from a on shore supply.pokerrick1 wrote:Divecoz;

The faucet on my M was mounted next to the old hand pump in the sink.
I use the hand pump to pump out of one of those 2.5 gallon square sparkletts bottles, I just cut a hole in the top and run the hose into it.
The pressure water faucet draws from a 13 gallon collapsible tank installed on the other side of the boat. The pressure is low and at first
I didnt think I would like it. But with low pressure it takes a while to drain the 13 gallon tank and gives enough pressure to wash or fill dog water bowl. Things like that. It will fill the sink in about a min or so.
I dont like those camping 5 gallon tanks that came with the boat. ( yes walmart sells them cheap) because the fiberglass in the compartment
where it was stored put a hole in one I used. The 2.5 sparkletts bottle is much tougher plastic.
Other ways to have more water without having to carry a large tank.
the ice from your Ice chest when melted will make water. I use this
after in the 13 gallon tank. For washing and sometimes dog water.
fresh water lake (no brainer) unlimited supply. If the lake is a little dirty
pump the water to your tank using a bilge pump through a water filter.
get a cheap bilge pump add long wire and 12 volt plug. drop into the lake and you have a cold water shower, pump to pump water to your tank a cheap wash down. All kinds of uses.
oh and by the way water in the ice chest if left in there and ice added
your cooler will be near freezing and the cold drinks are very cold. The beer will be so cold it goes down like sweet melted butter. to bad I have to go to work now it sounds good.
