Top Mast Cover?

Post by Janusch »

This is my third season with the 26X and have always had her in a slip so I don't do much trailering. This year I was thinking of running my antenia up to the top of the mast and notice that there is nothing on the top of the mast. Is there suppose to be a cap up there or something? If there is where would I get a new one? It just seemed a little odd that the rain and elements could get in there.

Jesse,
did you buy yours new or used? I had bought mine used and it is 1999 and I did not inspect it as well as I should have back then.

Only the older Mac Ventures came with a cap on top of the masts, as far as I am aware of? It is unneccasary, as any rain will simply exit through the bottom. But, if you wanted to provide flotation as the M Mac does, simply spray foam into the top and bottom, a couple of inches should do it! Then seal all other fastened items with RTV? Been considering that option myself actually!

I don't know if it is unneccasary. One of the problems I'm having this year is the wire from the deck to the mast light is broken, and I need to replace it. I was thinking that the problem might be that the rain is getting in there and corroding the wire :?

We bought ours new from Blue Water Yatchs in Seattle. Great folks, a real pleasure doing business with.

Our second 04 M has a cap on top from the factory. Our first 04 M had no cap at all.

Here is how we did the antenna on our mast. We mounted it on the side, with an anchor light on top. I have also added a Windex on the antenna itself.

Paul, I'm impressed, nice clean setup. OK, now i gotta have that cap if it will fit on our X boats! :)
Does anyone know for sure that the X, and M Macs, share the same cross section? (extrusion?)

Yup..thats you..ensuring the antenna wire would mate to the bottom of the antenna.

I did finally get the wire attached to the connectors. Put a little wd40 and it went on a lot easier. Very tight fit.

Also got the 4 pole mast light/anchor light/foredeck light connector installed. Came out pretty good.

I'll have pics of the recent modifications up soon.

Taking the boat out for it's maiden voyage this weekend with the New England Trailer Sailors club at Allen Harbor RI.

Take care

BWY told me the early X's came with a cast cap, but it was discontinued. I managed to scrounge an old one that had been mis-drilled and repaired it and used it for my anchor light. BWY also sells a standoff that allows the sparfly to be mounted further aft so it won't hit the light as it rotates. If I didn't have the old cap I would try to fabricate one.
