convertables

Post by tangentair »

I have searched but I have not found anyone using a convertable as a tow vehicle. Anyone able to this? I want to trade in my SUV for a rag top but it has to be able to tow. I suppose a full sized Caddy would work but I would like something more within my "California wine" budget.

You find a convertible that's old enough to have adequate towing capacity,
and it'll fit into your Ripple-budget, regardless of its make/model.

I always thought that any old Roller Corniche would do the job:

- They weigh a couple of tons
- They have enormous engines
- When they're old enough; they're cheap!

Does Ripple come in boxes? I kinda like that old scout but I am not sure I can sell it to "she who must be obeyed". So I must search some more.

OK, so she's not going for the IH, eh?

Hmmm.. OK.. in which case, I offer these possibilities for those with more champagne tastes:

1949 Chrysler Town & Country:

1962 Ford Thunderbird:

1959 Chevrolet Impala:

(and you should get her the proper sunglasses to wear with it as well... )

And finally, you might consider....

**SIGH**

Don'cha just wish cars were still ART, instead of all looking like ubiquitous, amorphous, aerodynamic guppies?

You kids, I remember when a lady like that looked over her rims like that, 'well every way but loose' wasn't just a movie. When ol'Nancy S. went walking in her boots......

Kevin,you caught my attention with that '62 TBird,but I'm a hardtop kinda guy! Had a '61 and a '62 way back when.

Saw a beautiful '63 ragtop for sale in OH 2 weeks ago. I sure am glad I have the boat to distract me 'cause the Admiral wouldn't say no! :D

I would worry about pulling a trailer with a modern convertible with uni-body construction - those older 'verts I think had mostly full frames underneath and the towing forces would go onto the frame.

Without the roof to stiffen the body, I would worry about bending the frame with a heavy tow load like a Mac on a unibody car.
