Re: Mast Step Not Flat
Dennis, I really appreciate all the time you put into your response. I apologize for the night photos but they show the situation. Basically it is good in a way there is some play in this - about 3 credit cards high can go in 1 inch - or 5 credit cards can go in the very end... because if the mast i...

Mast Step Not Flat
I'm seeing a strange issue with my mast step. Firstly the mast step is not flat - so you can pretty easily put say a flat head screwdriver between the step and the deck plate. I would say toward the front of the boat there is less than 1/4 inch of this situation between the step and plate but it con...

Re: Outboard mystery problem ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
If it is a CDI engine it is likely the kill switch/wire and the over-rev limiter. Mine failed recently and cut the engine. Once I disconnected no problems. These boxes fail on occasion. Again if CDI the stator/trigger are super simple and you'll get spark.

Re: MacX survived Sandy
I saw some mess in Sheepshead Bay on the news - some of those nicer homes built right on the water had boats piled on them. In general many boats in seaside communities got up and left from their trailers. I've been getting some emails from Fire Island. Ocean cut across there in 4 places. Many homes...

MacX survived Sandy
My boat was right near all the worst places hit in NY during the hurricane - breezy point, long beach, etc. Luckily the steel in the floating docks held and they boats all sort of pushed neatly amongst each other. Also luckily one floating dock worked itself into the front of the marina - blocking a...

Going Faster than 8mph
Hey Everyone, As I've gotten more comfortable with my Mac X I've been trying to go further faster. With the throttle seemingly full and RPMs seemingly at full (50hp Mercury going loud but not dangerously loud) it seems like I top out at 8 mph. This is with the ballast tank full, minimal weight, and ...

lubricant for top hatch sliding
Before experimenting with oil or anything, I thought I would ask - does anyone have any suggestions on how they stop their top hatch from squealing when you push it back and forth on the tracks on each side? I usually adjust it when loading/unloading things before a sail and sometime during to get p...

Re: New name has been decided!
I like all the history and mysticism around naming a boat. You should read why naming is so important in the western traditions - you need to identify your boat to Neptune who keeps track of every vessel on his ocean. That's part of the champagne breaking tradition too - a sacrifice to ancient gods....

Re: X Mast Raising Block Line Exit Angle
I am tempted to switch from block and tackle to a winch, however the winch only helps for raising the mast - is that correct? I haven't found any winches with brakes that could help you slowly lower the mast. The block and tackle seems like the only solution to do this.

CDI Roller Furler + Jib Halyard Block
Hey Everyone, I would like to have both the Furler on as well as the Jib Halyard Block / Halyard then secured to the mast cleat (for raising/lowering the mast and for a solar shower). I found that the block seems to get in the way of smooth rotation at the top of furler if you attach both to the sam...

Re: Securing Raised Mast Question on X
Great pictures. So you keep the Pulley assembly for the Jib halyard on the mast in addition to the connected top of the roller assembly? Do you then pull through the jib halyard after raising or do you secure to the front of your boat?

Re: Securing Raised Mast Question on X
Ok, I think I understand. The running configuration of the mast is only with ONE large bolt at the base. The forestay can take a significant load like 2000 pounds but if there is a failure the mast will pivot aft and land where it lands. I've read the manual a few times but it doesn't say explicitly...

Securing Raised Mast Question on X
Hey Everyone, Because I have a jib roller, I can't use the mast raising system. I did get a Mast Raising Poll with 3x8" x 4 1/2" bolt included on it when I purchased. My Mast is currently secured to the front of my boat with another 3x8" x 4 1/2" bolt. I was going to raise it tod...

USCG Required Supply Order
I usually like to give my business to local brick and mortar business - however to get my USCG required supplies (some new flares and fire extinguishers a throwable) I can order on the internet - nothing is near me. Anyone have any cheap/favorite/quality places they order this stuff from? I have all...
