Moving to NC ... should I bring my 26M?

We will be moving to Fairfield Harbour in February. We will be sailing on the Neuse River and Pamlico Sound and also want to make journeys on the ICW to the Chesapeake Bay and south to Charleston. My intitial thought was to sell the 26M out here in Arizona and buy a used Catalina 27 to 30 in North C...

Re: Scallywag Sail 2012

Can't make it this year Erik. But we are going to be in New Bern May 12-19 looking for a vacation home in Fairfield Harbour or Oriental. Maybe we can make it in 2013

Re: Climbing the mast?

Me on my Alberg 35 after the wire/rope halyard jumped the pully at top of mast, could not lower sail. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x25/dbarni/VAYU%2035/upmast.jpg Dave Great picture ... I'll bet the keel on an Alberg 35 has 5000 pounds of lead and 20,000 foot-pound righting moment ... quite a...

Re: Sailing by the Book

People talk about sailing in Lake Mead, or sailing to the Dry Tortugas, but is there a book that might cover such areas? or do we simply search for bits of information here and there from people who have sailed here and there? I think the OP was looking more for cruising guides ... places you could...

All of the things you mentioned are available on Amazon.com plus many more marine items. I've ordered blocks, dock lines, snap eyes, dacron lines, etc. from Amazon.

Re: Organizing lines in the cockpit

I have two of these in the cockpit up against the bulkhead, secured via the handle to the stanchion with a Velcro Strap. I like the smaller pockets on the outside for stowing cameras, cell phones, power bars, etc. I put larger items like, Binoculars, lunch, hats, jackets, winch hadles etc ... in the...

Re: New boat, new sailors

Very nice. Like you, I'm also returning to sailing (from Chesapeake and Long Island) after a 35 year hiatus. Just purchased a 26M last month and love it. There were several things I preferred about the X, but just happened to come upon a good deal on the M. Congrats and happy sailing !!

Re: Rudders - NACA Airfoil Calculations

I've been looking at these, but think the may be too small ... max 1/4 inch lines. http://www.clamcleat.com/cleats/cleat_d ... ?theid2=78 They are available at West Marine.

Re: Halyard snagging on upper mast hound

Does your halyard snag on the uper mast hound nut, or the threaded part of the 3/8" bolt sticking out of the nut. If the latter, cut off the threaded part at the nut. Couldn't tell, as the boat was bouncing around a bit at the time. I could not free it from the cockpit as it's threaded through...
