It sounds like you're well on a good track with this project. And that outboard you have is a GOOD one. I used to run one of those on my V222 until the pull-starter mechanism went kablooey twice within a month. At $40 per spring retainer (a cheap cast aluminum screw with a notched nipple at the bottom that holds the starter spring), it was too expensive to keep buying them. Plus, the engine was a short shaft (a real pain in choppy water, unless you have a motor mount bracket that can lower the motor deeper in the water). My father still owned my boat when the starter trouble happened, and ended up replacing the outboard with an 80's Johnson 6 hp Sailmaster. And let me say that, after using the 6 hp outboard for the last 2 summers, I DEEPLY miss the old 9.5. I know that people like to argue about hull speed with these boats, but there was a real difference between the 9.5 and the 6 hp motors in terms of speed when you're running to shore to get away from an unexpected thunderstorm.
Good choice on the fiberglass vendor. I hear that RAKA and West Systems are the two best on the market for boat fiberglass repair. I've done budget repairs in the past with Bondo brand kits, polyester resin, and it's junk. It lasts for a couple of seasons and starts to crack. I never hear complaints about West or RAKA, though.
The keel still doesn't look bad. MUCH better than mine. Mine completely delaminated a few years back, and I did a quick relamination job (and a very poor one at that). I'm consequently going to have to drop the keel out of the boat in this coming Spring to do it right this time. If you completely redo your keel, make absolutely sure to get the shape right. The foil shape does make a difference in reducing drag on the keel while sailing.
Keep the updates coming!
