This is as close as we have been to the USA in since the summer of 2019.
Sister Island NY, taken from just about right on the border line.

(Son #1 is embarrassed about the hair in the photo but it was the after-effect of a fund-raising dye-job)

Hi StarScream!
Kudos to your son for the dye job!

For the right reasons I’ve had a reverse Mohawk and a baldy Haircut!!!
They didn’t do dye jobs back then!
(I would have probably enjoyed that more as a sunburnt head ( remember this was before SPF lotions) with grow back stubble was a genuine pain!
)
It build character!
Who you are is on the inside, not the outside!
Great pictures!
Your other son reminds me of my older daughter’s obsession with reading at that age!
She consumed books!
The thicker and more involved the better!
You go guy!

Looks like you have a wonderful time with your family and your Mac!
Thanks for sharing!
Best Regards

Hey mac n cheese nice pics! Where are you located, and what fishing tackle is needed to fish for sockeye? I am just getting into walleye fishing on Lake Erie but have aspirations to go after salmon on Lake Ontario.mac n cheese wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 8:45 pm Nice thread.![]()

Re: Summer 2021 Photos
We are located on Babine Lake in north central BC which is the longest natural lake in BC at 177 kms or 110 miles. The male sockeye in the pic is just starting to turn pink and about to spawn. The meat is still very much edible and firm for bbq or smoking. We typically use a flasher and beads here when trolling where as a spoon is more commonly used on Lake Ontario I believe.
Lucky you being on Lake Erie. Walleye or Pickerel as we call them in the west is one of my all time favorite fresh water fish to eat. My brother lives just across from you near Port Colborne Ont. so I get my share of walleye feed when I visit him.
Another pic from 2021. The heat wave in the west last summer extended quite far north too. Fortunately not a lot of forest fires
like they experienced in the southern part of the province.

Nice pics, mac n cheese. I’ve never beached my boat, mainly because I’ve never had it at a beach where that would be practical. Lotta sand in Cape Cod, but way too much wave and wake action. Same for Lake Ontario.
Maybe some day, with grandkids. I have the grandkids, but some day hasn’t gotten here yet.

Back in 1976, we were at the Montreal Olympics. We went to the sailing start off location in Kingston. The Chinese restaurant we went to served sweet and sour pickerel. I obviously still remember that great tasting fish.Walleye or Pickerel as we call them in the west is one of my all time favorite fresh water fish to eat.
Inquiring minds want to know; when is the meat not edibleThe male sockeye in the pic is just starting to turn pink and about to spawn. The meat is still very much edible and firm for bbq or smoking.

Re: Summer 2021 Photos
The pacific sockeye have long migration runs from the ocean and a lot of fat is transferred to the skin and eggs in that time and the meat will get soft and turns white. Once in the spawning grounds most of the carotenoids have moved out of the flesh. The more red means they are ready to spawn and more visible to a mate.
Following wild sockeye spawning in a nearby creek. After they spawn and die they pretty much just feed the bears and eagles. What's leftover fertilizes the lake.

Re: Summer 2021 Photos
Salmon begin to deteriorate as soon as they enter fresh water. They stop feeding too. The sooner you can catch them as they enter the lake the better. After they head into and up the spawning channels they deteriorate quickly. Technically they would still be edible though...to a bird or a bear maybe
This one is well past its expiry date.

Re: Summer 2021 Photos
Well we got a mooring ball in 2021
which is about 40 minutes from the house. So thats not bad at all. High mountain lake so the winds are either on or off. I learned how to stall the rudders in low wind conditions
, and get back when the squall lines start showing up
.But we LOVE IT. It gets out on the water more often, and camping with it, especially with all the covid restrictions that have taken place
.

I like the little step for climbing up over the bow. It looks like if folds up very nicely. Who makes it?mac n cheese wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 11:46 am We are located on Babine Lake in north central BC which is the longest natural lake in BC at 177 kms or 110 miles. That little step of 13" or so can make a huge difference when getting in and out of the boat whether on the dock or beach.
Lots out there to choose from.
