My secret life. Inspired by Richard's blog. Non sailing.

Post by Mark Prouty »

Rich's blog post inspired me to create a new blog.

This is my secret non sailing life - Secret Life.

This blog stuff sure beats building a web page.

Great stuff, Mark!

My only reservation, as somebody mentioned elsewhere, is that the service remains available. I lost some pix when one of the photo services bellied-up.

Speaking of photos, I went to your new blog and no photos came up. Went back several times and a few came up. Other times just red X in place of the photo. I went to Rich's blog and his photo would not come up. They must be having a server problem.

NEVER MIND - it is working now.

It just goes to prove a point that my wife always makes when I say, "the boat will be great for the kids". Her response is always something like, "ya all THREE of mine". The problem is that we only have two kids.

Great to see the "secrete life" Mark and see that it still revolves around family.

Randy, could it be a bad sign that two new blogs have caused their site to crash... :?...Better create those stories in word first and save them, same with photos.

So if you guys like blogs and don't want to get into coding, there are lots of options to have no coding personal websites, with blogs, forums, etc. without doing coding. Here is an example:

You got my interest on this subject.

Here is a free tool you can download and manage your blog on you PC and it will load up to the blog site for you. It appears that there are numerous tool like this that use some blog protocol for uploading.

http://wbloggar.com/

"This simple XML-RPC client tool can post, publish, edit, and delete text on Weblogs managed by Blogger, b2, MovableType, Nucleus, BigBlogTool, and BlogWorks XML, or to any other blog tool or service that supports Blogger API. It has an intuitive Office-like interface, and you can preview the post before sending it to the server."

Here is one that cost $30

http://www.qumana.com/

WHAT CAN I DO WITH QUMANA?
Create blog posts quickly and easily
Drag content, links, or pictures into the DropPad
Drag 'n' drop any content, links, or pictures into the WYSIWYG Editor
Work in a familar word-processing environment
"One click" Technorati Tag insertion.
Publish to multiple blogs. Qumana publishes to all majorand many minorblog platforms.
Use Qumana to rapidly create media rich emails
Save your post as a draft or RTF to work on later.

Thanks for the info Randy. It would be a lot easier if I could afford to jsut hire someone that knows more than I do about website to handle it for me. Then again, I would rather blow those dollars on my boat.

Blogs are a good thing. This site is a core gathering place for Macaddicts, and blogs are a natural extension to share your adventures.

Keeping mods on MacGregorSailors.com exclusivily would be the best way to go. I would hate to search 50 blogs for relevant Mac info. Heath has Mac Central and this site is worth a million. We need to keep it that way. Blogs can chronicle personal adventures. The two should not compete.

Unless of course Heath would like to add a blog capability on this site during the upcoming winter months.... hint hint.

Randy,
I agree that this site is still the best forum for mods, learning, questions, ect, I was just looking for a format that would let me go further on posting my electronic log book.

Mark,

Years ago we lived in Lodi, WI. over on hwy K. Your blog site brought back quite a few memories. Is Lodi now a bustling suburb or still a sleepy dairy community?

It is growing fast but up to now it still has the sleepy dairy community charm. With a short commute on the Interstate, I can get away from the big city.
