Welded Rudder Bracket is Stronger than New

Like many Mac 26X sailors, I enjoy using my motor to sail a little faster that the normal sailboat might. However on the high seas around Newfoundland and Labrador, fast motorized turns cause higher stresses on the steering system, subsequently breaking both rudder brackets completely off (twice). The replacement cost is $150 a shot, (Not Cheap)and you have the same chance of breaking again.

Despite what the people at Macgreggor in California say about welding these Aluminum brackets, I am here to tell you that the ANNODIZED BRACKETS CAN BE WELDED so they will not to break again. The welded bracket is much stronger than a new bracket and cheaper than replacing or converting to steel. Check out the picture. Now I will just add a little paint to finish the job.
